What is Asbestos?
According to Asbestos.com "Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring minerals made up of heat-resistant fibers. It was used in thousands of U.S. consumer products before the dangers of asbestos were known. Asbestos causes mesothelioma, lung cancer and other cancers. Asbestos is regulated in the U.S., but not banned."
Because of it's ability to be resistant to corrosion, electricity, and heat asbestos was very useful. Although a naturally occurring mineral that is flexible and used as a very effective insulator, the fibers are inhaled or ingested and can become permanently trapped in the body.
